Blogger's Quilt Festival Spring 2010

I was searching for quilting blogs and found the Blogger's Quilt Festival so I decided to submit my first Ohio State Buckeye quilt.

I'm an alumni of The Ohio State University, and a big football fan!!! I have been told by friends that the Columbus campus must have implanted me with a Go Bucks chip!!

I started quilting at the Country Hutch in Geneva, Ohio about 20 years ago. I took a very long break and got bit my the bug again the summer of 2006. Once I started I could not stop. My first Buckeye quilt was an Ohio State Varsity Quilt Kit I bought in Columbus, Ohio at the Red Roosters Shop. http://www.redroosterquilts.com/

I machine pieced it at the Great Lake Quilt Escape at Geneva State Lodge on November 10, 2007. The Ohio State Buckeyes were on their way to a second National Championship game in 2 years, but the fans didn’t think that would happen after getting beat by the University of Illinois 28 to 21 that afternoon. I continued to work on the quilt top even after the loss and completed it that evening. While in Columbus the following July I saw a similar quilt and decided that I needed mine quilted by Jennifer McCann of Galena. If you look closely you can see many words that represent The Ohio State University. OSU, Scarlet and Gray, Brutus, Go Bucks, Round on the Ends and High in the Middle, OHIO, Carmen Ohio, and College of Agriculture. I displayed this quilt at the Lake Farm Parks Quilts 2009 Show. And at the Madison Library Quilt show in 2009.

If you check out my blog you will see that I haven't stoped quilting Scarlet and Gray and probably never will.

  1. Go Bucks! I think Buckeye Fever is more of a religious experience--having learned this since moving to Ohio 12 years ago. Great quilt.

As a former ohioan.... (and a college student in columbus - though not OSU)... I can certainly say there's much wonderfullness in a quilt that one can sit under while watching OSU beat the crap out of michiagan!

  5. Great quilt! At first glance I thought it was a quilt that I had made for my niece and nephews' grandpa who was a serious Buckeye fan. I didn't know that there was a quilt shop that sold patterns for an Ohio State quilt so I made my own up but I like your's better than mine.
