"Get It Done" in March and April and May

Judy at Patchwork Times is helping us to get projects done in 2013 by sponsoring
"Get It Done".

We are to blog about 4 items we want to get done during the month.

During the month of February, I completed the following items:

I completed binding 2 of the Alaskan quilts.

I selected the fabric for my Mariner’s Compass Quilt
I have pasted the fabric to the color chart!

It was actually March 5th, but I did finish piecing the Baby Quilt!

For the month of March I need to complete the following items.

I need to make labels for the 2 Alaskan Quilts and get those shipped to their new home.
Done and the they love their new home!!

Once Becky from Ruby Blue Quilting is done quilting the Baby Quilt,
I need to bind and label it.
Done and the Mommy was really pleased!!

I still need to do a label.

Continue working on Cassie’s Judy and Brad Niemeyer Waterfall quilt
Done piecing and now at Ruby Blue Quilting to be quilted on Becky and Beth's longarm.
Done being quilted and waiting to be binded.

Oh and I decided to make a Shamrock Twister wall hanging, not sure that will get done by St. Patrick’s day, but it will be fun.
Center of the wall hanging is done!!

I used some of the left over fabric from Cassandra's quilt to plan another Judy and Brad Niemeyer quilt.  Tumbleweeds will have Browns, Golds and Purples.  I have pasted the fabric onto the planning guide.

I plan to be a little more productive in May and to Blog more!!

"Get It Done" in February 2013

Judy at Patchwork Times is helping us to get projects done in 2013
by sponsoring "Get It Done".
We are to blog about 4 items we want to get done during the month.

During the month of January, I completed the following items:

I attached the handing sleeve and binding on my Feathered Peacock Star, so it could be entered in the Lake Farm Park Quilts 2013.  Unfortunately no ribbon this year.

I prepared the backs for 3 Alaskan theme quilts and had them quilted by Becky at Ruby Blue Quilts.  This link will take you to Becky's blog so you can see the beautiful quilting that she did.

I did finalize the design and start the WaterFalls paper piecing quilt I'm making for Cassie.

And I did finalize the design for Sara's baby quilt.

I'm pretty happy with what I accomplished this month!!
For the month of February I need to complete the following items.

1

Binding the 3 Alaskan quilts.

After our trip to Alaska 5 years ago, our quilt will be done!!!

2

Complete Sara's baby quilt, which is also a pattern I'm testing for Jessie at The Whole Bolt.

This little guy will be tumbling across the baby quilt!

3

Continue working on Cassie's Waterfall quilt.  I have one of the columns done.

4

Fianlize the design and then start assigning the fabrics to my next Judy and Brad Niemeyer quilt which is a Mariner's Compass.

I really think if I put my mind to it I can "Get It Done" in February!!

Becky Silbaugh at Ruby Blue Quilting studio did a great job with the quilting.

"Get It Done" in January 2013

Judy at Patchwork Times is helping us to get projects done in 2013
by sponsoring "Get It Done".

We are to blog about 4 items we want to get done during the month.

For the month of January I need to complete the following items.

1

Hanging sleeve and bind my Feathered Peacock Star Wall hanging

This is my second Judy and Brad Niemeyer pattern and Becky Silbaugh at Ruby Blue Quilting studio did a great job with the quilting.  Becky has a post at her blog with pictures of this quilt in progress.  This quilt needs done by January 19th so that it can be delivered to the Lake Farm Parks for Quilts 2013.

2

Scene in Alaska Quilt Kit

This is the fourth Lisa Moore pattern I have completed since traveling to Alaska in 2008.
My friend Doris traveled to Alaska this past June and asked if I could complete the 2 kits she picked up there.  I need to finish the shasings and borders.

3

Cassie's Brown and Teal quilt

I would like to finalize the pattern I will be doing for Cassie's quilt.  I will be doing a Judy and Brad Niemeyer pattern, but I have to decide one which one.  Then I'm going to design it in EQ7 so I can add the fabrics.  I'm leaning toward Waterfalls.

4

Sara's Baby quilt

My hairdresser is expecting her 2nd child this winter, so I will be doing a boy's baby quilt.
I have to design it in EQ7 and then start cutting and piecing.

I have some left overs from another baby quilt I did last year, called Sea of Dreams by South Sea Imports.  So I thought I would use that fabric to make up a simple block and rectangle quilt.

Ok now I have my goals for January lets see how many of them I "Get Done"!!!

Feathered Peacock Star quilt top is done!!!

I finished sewing the and removing the paper from my Judy and Brad Niemeyer Feathered Star quilt top last weekend.
Then this past week I worked on pressing the quilt top and piecing the backing.

Today I visited the Cottonpickers Quilt Shop and put the quilt top on the design wall.

Close up of the center.

Becky of Ruby Blue Quilting Studio will be quilting this wall hanging in the next few weeks.

I can't wait to get it back and finish it for entering it into the Lake Farm Parks 2013 Quilt Show.

Feathered Star Quilt - Chapter 5 Progress

I have completed all paper piecing and have started sewing together the sections of my FeatheredStar by Judy and Brad Niemeyer quilt.
I was able to do some of the border paper piecing at the Buckeye Sewing Retreat I attended last weekend.

Saturday morning I worked in my sewing room, unpacking everything from the Retreat and setting up my sewing machine.  Then Saturday night I finished the paper piecing and started working on the corners and my first Y seams of the project.  If you follow the instructions the Y seams go together pretty easily.  I did increase my stitch length in case I had to reverse sew!!

The instructions have you sewing sections together, so that you build the quilt area by area, corners, middles and sides.  I even started removing paper last night; it took me about 30 minutes to remove the paper from one of the sections.  I have decided to remove the paper from the inner parts of the sections prior to completing the quilt.

I lay the section I’m working on, on the table and use my ‘Purple Thang’ to help loosen the paper and definitely have a trash can or bag handy.  Of course my trash can is a Buckeye one!!
I have had a couple areas where the glue didn’t release, so I may have to use a little water with a Q-tip to finish those areas.

I can’t wait to get this finished!!  I will be having Becky Silbaugh of Ruby Blue Quilting Studio help to select the quilt pattern and then do the quilting on her long arm machine.

Buckeye Sewing Retreat Day 2

Saturday my roommate Judy and I were up early and headed to breakfast around 7:30 a.m.  Breakfast was great; I had a waffle, orange juice and milk.  Then it was back to sewing!!
My table mate wasn’t up yet so I decided to bind my first Judy Niemeyer quilt Desert Sky.  I used the same fabric for this binding as I did on my Bali Breeze.

I started the binding and hanging sleeve on one of my Scarlet and Gray Bargello wall hangings, and then we broke at noon for a lunch of Salad, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Pie again!!

Then it was back to sewing.  I finished both the Bargello wall hangings then it was time for a nap!!  I need to rest my neck and back, prior to The Ohio State Buckeyes football game!!  During the game I sewed down the hanging sleeves on the both of the Bargello wall hangings.

After we defeated Penn State I started getting out my paper piecing supplies for my Feathered Star. I had a number of border sections to paper piece.
I did manage to stay up till about 10:30 p.m. without any sewing mistakes or rotary cutter accidents!!

My final post will include some of the beautiful projects that some of the quilters worked on this weekend.

Feathered Star - Chapter 5

Here is what my Feathered star looks like prior to adding the background and borders.

I have selected the background for behind the star.

And then I started auditioning fabrics for the border.

With the feather tips being light and medium I struggled using the fabric I had.  Most of them ranged from light to medium.  Fortunately Quilts and Sew Forth was running their batiks on sale so what is a girl to do???  I picked up some more Merlot which was used in the center and then a couple more purples that are darker.  I think they will blend together but still be dark enough for the border.

What do you think?

Tomorrow I need to spend the day getting the border sections cut so I can start sewing!!!

Feathered Star Quilt - Chapter 3 done and Chapter 4 almost done!!

At the end of Chapter 2 this was what my Feathered Star looked like.

Now I have completed Chapter 3 and 4..

Some of the wedges have been sewn together.

It's actually turning out really nice!!  I even got a complement out of my DH!

Feathered Star Quilt - Chapter 2 almost done!! - Judy and Brad Niemeyer

Chapter 2 was little more challenging because I'm working with bigger pieces and really strange shapes!!
Judy and Brad do a great job with the directions and fabric templates help a lot!

I finished the first 8 wedges and had to wait to take a picture until I finished one of the other wedges.  Do you see the problem with the wedge on the top right?  I didn't notice the issue until I looked at the picture.  I missed adding one of the light fabric pieces.  So I fixed that one and continued working on the other 7 wedges.

I thought I would include pictures as I was building to the end of Chapter 2.

It's really beginning to looked Feathered!!

Here it is with the Chapter 2 wedges added.
I think it looks pretty good.

Feathered Star Quilt - Completion of Chapter 1 - Judy and Brad Niemeyer

I have determined that Wine and paper piecing doesn't always go together!!
Thursday night Jim and I had a wonderful Birthday dinner and shared a bottle of Wine!!
I came home wanting to finish Part 2 of Chapter 1 so I sewed on one of the sections and realized Friday night that they were on wrong!!  Of course I had already trimmed all of them but one!  Which meant using the seam ripper and cutting new pieces!!

I was able to finish Part 2 of the Chapter 1 Friday night!!

I laid them out at Cottonpickers so that I could get some suggestions on the fabric for Chapter 2.  Beth's daughter, Becky was there to give me a hand.

Looks pretty good if I do say so myself!!

These are the fabrics we selected for the Chapter 2!!

Today was the From Marti and Me Club and Sit and Sew of the Super Saturday Stitchers.
These women are very talented and will be working on their own Judy and Brad Niemeyer patterns soon!  I was able to complete Chapter 1 and start cutting out Chapter 2!!

I love how it is coming together!!  The next chapters fabrics are a little darker, so I'm hoping the center star will pop!!!

This one of the 8 wedges in Chapter 1

This shows 2 of the wedges with the different colored centers.

Feathered Star Quilt - Continuation of Step 2 - Judy and Brad Niemeyer

My last post showed the first 2 wedges for the center star, this post shows all 8!!

I took advantage of Judy and Brad's instructions on stacking the fabric and chain piecing and the remaining wedges came together fairly fast!!

I think the eggplant really helps to make the star pop!!

Once I get Chapter 1 done I will have to select some more fabric!!
I know Judy suggests picking everything out and get it all cut before sewing, but I need to see the quilt build and select fabric as I go.  Fortunately this pattern allows me to do that!
I hope to get the remaining wedges done in Chapter 1 by the end of the weekend!!
Stay tuned!!!
