Pattern Testing 101

In June of 2010 I started volunteering as a pattern tester.  It gives me an opportunity to perfect my skills and create items from patterns that I might not have purchased.

The first one was a tablerunner called Every Day's A Holiday An Artful Table Runner. She sent me the fabric, Benartex Noel, pattern and a return envelope. I tested this pattern for Sarah Whitney at Quilt Patterns from Sweet Clover Canyon.  I used e-mail to communicate with her and send her comments on the pattern. Upon completion I sent her the table runner and a picture. She will use my name in the pattern as one of her testers.

The second one was a crib quilt that I used my own fabric, and of course I selected Scarlet and Gray!! I tested the Pinwheels and Whirligigs Quilt Pattern for Cary Flanagan of SomethingSewFine.com the pattern is available at Quilt Woman.com.  I used e-mail to communicate with her and send her comments on the pattern. Upon completion I sent her a picture of the completed quilt top.  This was the first time I had made a piano key border and pieced shashings.

The third pattern I tested was Chirstmas Kitchen for an apron from Ruth Blanchet at Arbee Designs.  I used e-mail to communicate with her and send her comments on the pattern. Upon completion I sent her a picture of the completed apron.

The fourth pattern was the Third Street Table runner pattern for Debbie Grifka at Esch House Quilts.  I used e-mail to communicate with her and send her comments on the pattern. Upon completion I sent her a picture of the completed tablerunner.

The fifth pattern was The Flapper which is a purse pattern from Jen Eskridge of Reanna Lily Designs it is also available at Quilt Woman.com.  This pattern had notions such as an eyelet maker that I had nerver used before.  I have learned to ask questions about required notions, because you may not want to purchase the required tools.

I tested another table runner this time for Rochelle Martin of Cottage Quilt Designs This pattern may end up in the 2nd book of the Quilted Cat Mystery series.  The first book Strangled by Wild Geese was released May 2010.

The next pattern I tested was named Southwestern Cross for Sarah Whitney at Quilt Patterns from Sweet Clover Canyon . I used e-mail to communicate with her and send her comments on the pattern. Upon completion I sent her the quilt top to be photographed. She will use my name in the pattern as one of her testers.  I was nervous sending my quilt top across country and was glad when I had it back.  But check out the great photo that was taken of it!!

This quilt is currently at Jennifer's getting quilted.

In September of 2010 I started testing for the new Online Only Quilt Pattern Magazine.

I'm in the process of testing two Sampler quilts using the same blocks in a 9" and 12" size.

I also tested a pattern called Purple Delight, it still needs borders added.

I tested a pattern for Vanessa Wilson of Crafty Gemini it is called Starry Picnic.

I tested a pattern for Terri Sonata of Purple Moose Designs it is called Fish Frenzy.

One of the non quilt projects I did was the Lovely Laundy Bag for AnneMarie of Gen X Quilters.

  

I gave it as a gift to my niece when she graduated from nursing school this spring.  Its a great pattern to use with Jelly Rolls. She loves everything flipflop so these fabric choices were perfect for her.

The next quilt I tested was Harvest Cabins for Rochelle Martin of Cottage Quilt Designs.
